    This course introduces the world of tobacco laws and regulation. Throughout this course, United States federal laws concerning the sale of tobacco and tobacco-related products will be discussed.

    In the United States, the "Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act," also known as the "Tobacco Control Act," governs the ways in which tobacco products may be sold and distributed to consumers. This course-and the Tobacco Control Act-focuses primarily on keeping tobacco and tobacco-related products out of the hands of children (by law, defined as anyone under the age of 18 years old). These restrictions involve numerous regulatory and advertising standards, as well as strict laws regarding the advertising and promotion of cigarettes and other tobacco-containing products.

    This course also explains the significant health risks to smokers and others who use tobacco products, and seeks to minimize the damage done to the youngest generations by helping them choose to avoid becoming smokers or tobacco users.

State Requirements

The Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) oversees all activities relating to the trafficking of alcoholic beverage within the state. It was instituted at the end of the Prohibition in 1933 and consists of five members, all installed in office by the Governor.

In its mission to uphold the highest standards for alcoholic beverage consumption and distribution, the MLCC regulates the sales and service of alcoholic beverages in the state, as directed by the Penal Law and the state’s Dram Shop Law or the Michigan Liquor Control Code of 1998.

These are the highlights of the state requirements for alcohol seller/server certification training in Michigan State:

  • Alcohol servers and sellers should be 18 years old and above;
  • Any employee who is directly involved with the sales and delivery of alcoholic beverages should obtain an alcohol seller/server certification within 60 days of hire;
  • Employees who have obtained an alcohol/seller certification must keep their proof of certification with them at all times on work premises;
  • Sellers/server must get certified as long as their responsible vendor designation’s license remains active.

Learn2Serve’s course provides alcohol beverage servers the necessary training in serving alcoholic beverages on-premises and off-premises. The program will equip employees with the right kind of knowledge and tools needed on recognizing the effects of alcohol on their customers so that they may sell and serve it responsibly, thus protecting themselves and their employers from liabilities.
